Our Work

Why we Exist?

UBF works with different partners to implement projects that are involved in the implementation of initiatives to conserve biodiversity underpinned by her mission to mobilize financial resources for Biodiversity Conservation in Uganda.

The contribution of Wildlife and Tourism

Wildlife resources yield direct benefits such as local and national income from tourism activities and hence we need collective effort to protect Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) in Uganda.

Who We Are

Uganda Biodiversity Trust Fund (UBTF), trading as UBF, is registered in Uganda as an independent Trust incorporated under the Trustees Incorporation Act in August 2016. UBF is a grant-making institution that supports its partners to implement biodiversity conservation projects in Uganda. UBF’s establishment was a result of the shortcomings in the biodiversity funding  hence the need to address the gap in conservation financing within the country. UBF is therefore serving as a catalyst for mobilizing, managing, and channelling financial resources for biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of natural resources in Uganda for the benefit of current and future generations and the intrinsic value of nature.

Our History

After years of having environmental funds focusing on specific niches in Uganda, local, national, and international stakeholders agreed that a national platform needed to be created to address the gap in broad based conservation financing within the country. Thus, UBF was born and registered in August 2016 under the Trustees Incorporation Act of 1939, Chapter 165.  UBF subsequently went into a contractual agreement with WCS for program funding support from USAID, during 2017-2019, which focused on institutional building.

UBF works with different partners to implement projects that are targeted at  conserving biodiversity underpinned by her mission to mobilize financial resources for Biodiversity Conservation in Uganda.
