Effective strategies for enhanced biodiversity conservation on the forest-farm mosaic of Kikuube District

Better World Uganda (BWU) is implementing the “Effective strategies for enhanced biodiversity conservation on the forest-farm mosaic of Kikuube district” project in Butoole and Kyangwali parishes, Kyangwali Sub County, Kikuube District. The project is addressing increased environmental degradation outside Bugoma Forest aligned to economic disparities and introducing energy-saving stoves technologies. BWU is identifying, training, and supporting 500 farmers in agroforestry management, building the capacity of communities in biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation and adaptation, and setting up community conservation committees that support community awareness. In addition, the project is reducing pressure on the remaining natural forest by delivering local livelihood alternatives where 300 farmers are being supported with coffee and shade tree seedlings, a total of 100 youth are trained to construct energy-saving stoves for households at a minimum fee, and Five (5) groups each with 30 members formed to participate in Village Saving and Lending Associations (VSLA).
